The Global Warming crowd has really done it this time. Since they convinced enough people and got the big agribusiness boys to jump on the ethanol wagon farmers are falling over themselves to plant corn. Even though corn takes 1.3 gallons of petroleum products to produce 1 gallon of ethanol and untold gallons of water pumped out of aquifers to water said corn the people in Washington thinks its a great idea to throw millions of your tax dollars at this.
Now comes the unintended consequences part of this. Since the farmers are in it to make money like the rest of us they are planting corn and not other crops. So can anybody guess what is happening? I knew you could, that’s right, the price of the other crops are skyrocketing. Due to the ethanol shuffle , the poor crop of wheat last year in the US, Canada, Australia, and other regions the price has tripled and looks to being going a lot higher for flour before this is all over. Our Daily Bread will soon cost a lot more.So you see burning food is not a good idea.
